Muthuselvi has one brother and one sister (12 years old) who is also studying at KGBV School . Sadly Muthselvi father passed away when she was 6 years old with a heart problem. Now Muthuselvi’s mother earns less than $1 per day, supporting herself, her daughter and her elderly mother Muthselvi has high ambitions and wants to continue her education that her both parents were unable to receive, and get a good government job. Muthselvi’s mother is extremely happy that her daughter can read and write and receives three meals a day.
Rakku has both parents and work as daily laborers, working over 8 hours a day 7 days a week and earn a combined income of just over $2 per day. ODAM have been able to provide the family with a loan so that they could build a better family home and live in improved conditions. Rakku is the first member of the family to continue her education, as both parents are illiterate only using their thumb as a signature. Her parents want Rakku to have the best chance to get a good job in the future after completing her education. Rakku enjoys staying at KGBV School and would like to become a teacher. Kathammal has two sisters and one brother. Kathammals’ parents are both daily wage laborers working in agriculture, working 8 hours a day 7 days a week, for over 25 years. Kathammal has worked for 3 years in the same role from 8 years of age. Kathamals’ parents earn just over $2 per day. Kathammals’ father received some education until he was 10 years old. Her mother has never been to school. They would both like Kathammal to become a doctor and are very happy that she is at school.
Karupayee parents both work as daily laborers, planting in the fields and look after goats to sell at the local market. Unfortunately many of their goats died through disease and a significant part of their income was lost. arupayee dropped out of school to help support her family, helping out in the home as the main carer. Karupayee also helped look after the family livestock. Karupayees’ parents earn $2 per day and find it very hard to feed and cloth their three children. They are both very happy that Karupayee is in school and is able to receive full time education, food, and clothing. Karupayee is the first person from her family to go to school, and would like to become a nurse.
Vasuki has four sisters and one brother. Both her parents have been daily farmers for over 25 years. Vasuki worked as a daily farmer for 3 years from 9 to 12 years old. Vasuki in this time worked for a minimum of 8 hours a day 7 days a week. The family earn $2 per day and find it very difficult to feed and cloth their children. Vasuki parents are very happy that their daughter is at KGBV School , and would like her to have a good job. Vasuki would like to become a doctor.
